Annual Archdiocesan Rosary Rally Planned

Published: September 18, 2003

CONYERS—Pope John Paul II has challenged the Catholic community worldwide to “rediscover the beauty of the Rosary.” In his Apostolic Letter of Oct. 16, 2002 “Rosarium Virginis Mariae,” he humbly invites bishops, clergy and faithful to make this “Year of the Rosary” a time to implore our Blessed Mother’s intercession for peace in the world and peace in the family.

In celebration of the Year of the Rosary, the 32nd Annual Archdiocesan Rosary Rally will be held Sunday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Spirit monastery in Conyers.

The rosary will be followed by a concelebrated Mass inside the monastery. Msgr. Paul Reynolds, vicar general, will be principal celebrant and Father Jack Durkin, pastor of Christ Our Hope Church, Lithonia, will be homilist. Priests of the archdiocese are invited to concelebrate. This Mass will fulfill the Sunday obligation.

A prayer for vocations will be led by a member of the Serra Club, and members of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree, will serve as the honor guard. Deacon Bert Berding, spiritual director of the Rosary Rally committee, will be assisting at the Mass, and Bill Weller, a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Atlanta, will serve as master of ceremonies.

This year’s rally should inspire people of all age and ethnic backgrounds to make a concerted effort to do something special in the Year of the Rosary, which will come to a close on Oct. 19.

Ample parking space will be available, but car pools are also encouraged. For directions to the monastery, 2625 Highway 212, SW, Conyers, please call (770) 483-8705.
