TO THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY IN ATLANTA
My dear friends in Christ:
I send you my kindest greetings. I want to assure you that I pray for you daily and ask the Lord to continue to bless you.
As your bishop I must inform you of an Hispanic Community in the Archdiocese -- a religious group that call themselves “Capilla de la Fe” (Chapel of Faith). They give the impression that they are priests and loyal Catholics and in communion with the Roman Catholic Church. For months now this group, “Capilla de la Fe,” has been creating confusion in the Hispanic community by pretending to be in communion with the church and the Magisterium of the Church. They even use the same terminology that the Roman Catholic Church uses in referring to the Mass and the Sacraments. I feel I must inform you that this group is not in communion with our Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, and they are not approved by me as Archbishop of Atlanta. Unfortunately many of our good Hispanic people are confused by their pretense and they are leading many away from the Catholic Church.
It is my responsibility as your bishop to inform you about those who pretend to be Catholic and to evangelize our own people so they will have a better appreciation of what it means to be a Roman Catholic.
Please be assured of my gratitude and appreciation for taking to heart this issue which, unfortunately, I must bring to your attention.
With an assurance of prayers, and every best wish, I am
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend John F. Donoghue Archbishop of Atlanta |
