Published: August 21, 2003

ATLANTA—The annual celebration in honor of the Virgin of Charity, patroness of Cuba, will be held Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Road, NE.The Mass in Spanish will begin at 7 p.m. and will be followed by an outdoor procession and a reception in the parish hall. The principal celebrant and homilist will be Father Pedro Corcs L—pez, vocations director of the Archdiocese of Miami, who was born in Col—n, Matanzas, Cuba, in 1957. He was ordained to the priesthood in May 1988. The Marian title, Virgin of Charity, reminds the faithful that Mary's Son, Jesus, came to preach of love as the answer to life's problems. Pope Benedict XV proclaimed the Virgin of Charity in 1916 as the patroness of Cuba upon petition by the veterans of the Cuban War of Independence. The event is a time to unite with Mary and pray to her Son for the universal church, the people of Cuba and for those in attendance. All are welcome. For information call the archdiocesan Hispanic Apostolate at (404) 885-7289.
