Battle Of Bands, All-Night Rave On Tap
KENNESAW-Glow sticks will be waving, fog will encircle dancing teens and music will be booming throughout the room on Friday, March 15.
But this all-night rave, sponsored by the St. Catherine of Siena Life Teen group will have an added element in the mix of the lights and action-Jesus.
About 300 teens are expected to fill Herbert Hall at the church for the rave, which will be proceeded by a "Battle of the Bands."
Bill Schreiner, youth minister at St. Catherine's, said that they have already booked five teen-age bands, which play music ranging from '80s metal to full-blown Christian.
The battle begins at 8 p.m. and each band will play for 30 minutes until 11 p.m. when the rave will commence. The party will continue until 7 a.m.
The event will feature a professional lighting system as well as a fog machine and a DJ, and glow sticks will be available for purchase. There will also be food and drinks.
The word "rave" may invoke visions of drugs and promiscuity, but Schreiner is hoping this event will show teens an alternative.
"You always hear about different events for teens and some are not the most positive, like raves, because of what you hear goes on there," he said. "We're trying to take that idea of a rave and turn it into something positive and spiritually uplifting."
The cost of admission is $10. To RSVP or for more information or directions, call Schreiner at (404) 863-5974 or e-mail him at lifeteen@saintcatherineofsiena.org. St. Catherine of Siena is located at 1618 Ben King Road in Kennesaw.
