Marist School To Dedicate Millner Family Science Center
ATLANTA - Marist School will celebrate the dedication of its science building as the Millner Family Science Center on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 3:30 p.m.
Longtime Marist community members Guy Millner, his wife Virginia, daughters Anne and Patricia and son Wes participated in the school's Second Century Campaign, which concluded in October 2001. The campaign invited the Marist community as a whole to help the school, on its 100th anniversary, to continue to pursue excellence in academic programs.
The Millner gift allowed for the renovation of eight classrooms in the building, which hadn't been upgraded in over 40 years. The gift was given in honor of Father James Hartnett, SM, immediate past president of the school.
"The Millner gift has strongly enhanced the education we are able to give our students. Technology improvements have made it exciting to teach in the classroom. Students having computers (in science laboratories) expanded the ability to use the school network and the Internet for activities and exploration," said Tom Longfield, Ph.D., chairman of the science department.
Marist president Father Richmond Egan, SM, added, "They're marvelous to behold."
The Millner family, Father Egan, principal Father Joel Konzen, SM, and other members of the Marist extended community will take part in the dedication of the science center. The school is located at 3790 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Atlanta.
