ATLANTA - James E. Tally, Ph.D., president and CEO of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, is the new chairman of the Marist School board of trustees. In addition, the Marist School board welcomed three new voting members: Linda Hogan, Walter Hoff and René Díaz.
With experience leading one of the country's largest pediatric health systems, Tally has filled various administrative positions in the medical field, and was instrumental in the successful 1998 merger of Egleston Children's Health Care System and Scottish Rite Children's Medical Center.
An Air Force veteran, he also serves on the board of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and has been previously involved with the Hospital Advisory Committee of Medicaid, the council on government relations for the Georgia Hospital Association and the health unit of the United Way.
Of the newest board members, Marist School president Father Richmond J. Egan, SM, said, "Linda Hogan is a current parent who brings real school experience and is quite an active volunteer in school projects. Walter Hoff is the parent of two Marist students, and his wife is involved throughout our community. And, it is always nice to have alumni like René Díaz continue to invest themselves in Marist School."
Hogan is a graduate of Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, Texas, and has lived in the Atlanta area since 1981. The mother of Marist senior Jeff Hogan and Marist graduates Kristin and Jim Jr., she served as 2001-2002 co-president of the Marist School Parents' Club, volunteered with the school's Habitat for Humanity efforts and participated in the Mothers' Prayer group.
Hoff and his wife, Evelyn, are the parents of Matt, a senior, and Christy, a freshman, at Marist School. The current chairman and CEO of NDC Health, a leading provider of health care information management services, he is a former vice president of First Data Corp. and past CFO and vice president of American Express Information Services Corp. He fulfills a director role on the boards of MedUnite, Inc., TechRx Corp., Metris Companies, Inc., and Catholic Foundation of North Georgia and is a trustee of Father Flanagan's Boys' Home.
Named among the "Top 100 Most Influential Atlantans" in 2001 by the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Díaz, a 1980 Marist School graduate, is president and CEO of Diaz Foods. The entrepreneur is on the board of directors of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Community Food Bank, The Carter Center and United Americas Bank, N.A.
The primary concern of the new board is to strengthen Marist School's endowment to ensure that Marist has the financial strength and security to continue to provide the many service, spiritual enrichment, academic and athletic programs that distinguish it within the Atlanta community.
