Sister M. Martha Baron, OP, Celebrates Jubilee Year

ATLANTA - Sister M. Martha (Helen Maria) Baron, OP, a woman Religious at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home, celebrated her 50th year as a member of the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne with her community at their Mother House in Hawthorne, N. Y. The celebration was held Oct. 19 with a Jubilee Mass, followed by a gathering of friends and family.

After graduating from high school, Sister Baron attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Yonkers, N.Y. Before entering the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne novitiate, she worked at the Guild of Infant Savior in Manhattan caring for newborns. Over her 50 years as a woman Religious, Sister Baron has also served on the staff in four of the community's other homes: Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, N.Y., Sacred Heart Home in Philadelphia, Holy Family Home in Cleveland, and Rose Hawthorne Home in Fall River, Mass.

Sister Baron was transferred this past year from Fall River to Atlanta to serve at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home in Atlanta - one of the community's six free homes for incurable cancer patients. The Hawthorne Dominicans were co-founded in 1900 by Rose Hawthorne, daughter of American laureate novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne.
