Vigil Held for St. Anthony's Parishioners

(L-r) Father Craig David, pastor of St. Anthony Church, Atlanta, Chatta Douglas, Michael Malcolm and Douglas' husband Chuck, stand outside Grady Memorial Hospital during a candlelight vigil for the Ivery and Wright family of St. Anthony's Oct. 2. Travis and Christine Ivery, members of the parish for more than 30 years, their granddaughter Tymeka Wright, and her 12-year-old son Savion were stabbed in a violent attack on Oct.1 by Wright's boyfriend De'Kelvin Martin. Eighty-three-year-old Travis Ivery died en route to the hospital, while young Savion died at the scene. Atlanta civic leaders, clergy of other faiths, a representative from the Victim Witness Assistance Program, and members of the victims' family joined St. Anthony parishioners at the vigil. Wright was released from the hospital in time to attend the Oct. 4 rosary and Oct. 5 funeral for her son and grandfather. According to Father Thomas Meehan, hospital chaplain and former St. Anthony pastor, Christine Ivery is improving, but she is still recovering in the intensive care unit of Grady.
