Sullivan Center Celebrates Move To New Location
ATLANTA - The Sullivan Center, Inc. has moved to a larger building at 643 Dill Ave., near the corner of Metropolitan Parkway, and is celebrating with a special open house for the community on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 1-4 p.m.
Food and music provided by members of Our Lady of Lourdes choir and a special presentation by mistress of ceremonies Monica Kaufman will be part of the festivities.
The mission of the Sullivan Center is to provide help with dignity to families and individuals in crisis. Preventing homelessness is the center's overall goal.
"Our new facility allows us to accommodate more individuals as we assist them, said Janet Powers, a master's of social work student intern from Georgia State University. Powers is working for a year at the facility run by its namesake, Sister Marie Sullivan, OP.
"With the anniversary of 9/11, there is a special focus on community. It is a time for us to come together and to help each other remember the heroes of the past and also to celebrate the heroes of the present and of the future," Powers said. "That is one reason that we, at the Sullivan Center, work hard to assist people in getting jobs, increasing life skills, and provide the necessities of life like food, clothing and rent or utility assistance."
