TYRONE-Sallie J. McQuaid, principal of Our Lady of Victory Catholic School, Tyrone, has resigned effective June 30, 2002 and will retire. McQuaid came out of retirement to take over the principal's position in December 1999. She had previously served as principal at St. John the Evangelist School in Hapeville from 1988-94. In a letter to the families and community of Our Lady of Victory, McQuaid wrote, "After many years of service in Catholic education, I went into retirement upon completion of my service at St. John the Evangelist in Hapeville. When OLV was in need of a principal early in its history, I was approached by representatives of the archdiocese about assuming the role for a limited amount of time, until the school was somewhat established. I viewed that request as a call to serve and responded." She continued, "Our Lady of Victory will be SACS accredited by the end of this school year, and next year's operating budget will balance. The building facility is completely operational and well maintained. Our current and prospective enrollment are strong, and our academic programs are solid. Unless you have had the opportunity to start a school from the beginning, it is difficult to express adequately the challenges, and blessings, such an endeavor presents." Because OLV is a regional school, it is the responsibility of the superintendent to identify the new administration and make a recommendation to the archbishop for his approval, she wrote. In the next few weeks, a search committee with parent and faculty representation will meet and candidates will be considered and evaluated. In addition, Judith Mucheck, superintendent of schools, will meet with each member of the faculty and staff. McQuaid urged the OLV community to "pray for one another and that the same Lord who has graciously blessed OLV will also raise up the next leadership."
