Santo Niņo Fiesta Tradition Grounded In Filipino Community
SPECIAL BLESSINGS--Father Manzueto Palang blesses the icons of the Christ Child brought in by members of the parish's Filipino community. Father Palang was the main celebrant for the annual event. He is assisted by altar server Sarah Luna. Dr. Cecile Bregman coordinated the festival.
MUSICAL ACCOMPANIMENT--Flutist Phil Aragon accompanies the Filipino choir during the special Santo Niņo Mass held in January at St. Philip Benizi Church, Jonesboro.
ABUNDANT FOOD--Father Vincent Gluc, OFM Conv., parochial vicar at St. Philip Benizi, digs into the traditional dishes from the Philippine Islands which were prepared as part of the Santo Niņo Fiesta. Some of the dishes included pancit, a noodle dish, lumpia, different types of egg rolls, and lechon, a roast pig.
ROSES FOR REMEMBRANCE--Allison Nagaj brings a yellow rose to place before the altar where the wooden icons of the Holy Child are kept. She was part of a procession of children and adults who brought flowers and special gifts. (Photos by Ken Melvin)
