Serra Club Basketball Tournament Draws Crowds

ATLANTA-Sixteen teams - eight boys and eight girls teams - competed in the second annual Serra/St. Pius Christmas Basketball Classic at St. Pius X High School Dec. 27-29. The St. Pius Lady Golden Lions advanced to the semi-finals, before being defeated by the Villa Maria Academy Victors of Erie, Pa. The Serra Club is a worldwide organization of lay Catholics named after Blessed Junipero Serra, an 18th century Franciscan missionary who founded early California missions. The mission of the Serra Club is to promote religious vocations through awareness and affirmation programs. There are currently 768 Serra Clubs with more than 23,500 members in 36 countries.
