Georgia Winter Wonderland
SNOWBOUND SAINT--A St. Francis of Assisi statue in a DeKalb County garden is covered with snow from the South's first winter storm of 2002 on Jan. 3. The storm left 2 to 6 inches of snow across much of the state. For Atlanta, which recorded approximately 4.5 inches of snow, it was the largest snowfall recorded in a 24-hour period dating back to Jan. 18, 1992 when 5 inches fell.

Although it was a day of fun in the snow for most kids, it posed a greater challenge for motorists and air traffic. The snowstorm caused Atlanta-based Delta Airlines to cancel more than 300 flights.
