St. Vincent De Paul Society Launches Clothing Distribution Center

ATLANTA—The St. Vincent de Paul Society has launched a new program to give clothing to people in need. In November, the society closed its thrift store on Buford Highway and opened a new Chamblee Clothing Donation Center in its council offices at 2050-C Chamblee Tucker Road in order to help serve it’s clients better.

The new location is more accessible to MARTA and will help SDVP more effectively meet the needs of its many agencies’ clients, said Mark Correll, spokesman for the organization. He stressed that the society’s eight other thrift stores will remain open.

“The CCDC is not a store. Clients are referred to us by different (nonprofit) agencies who send or fax us a list of their needs. The agencies help the clients make an appointment — and then the clients come in and can select everything from men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, as well as blankets, small appliances, kitchenwear and lamps.”

The CCDC is just one of three clothing ministries the SVDP operates. Sears department stores have donated new clothing for the past few years. Volunteers within SVDP clip the sale tags and clothing manufacturer names (to prevent resale), sort the clothes by size and box them up for agencies throughout metro Atlanta. Last year, more than 2,000 people received clothing through this program, he said.
