Diaconate Class Instituted As Acolytes

ATLANTA—Members of the permanent diaconate Class of 2003 were instituted as acolytes Nov. 19 during a Mass celebrated by Archbishop John F. Donoghue at Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

This is a second stage for the group of 15 men, who are progressing toward ordination to the permanent diaconate in about 14 months. Earlier in formation they were installed as readers.

At this Mass Archbishop Donoghue presented each with a chalice, symbolizing their new role assisting at the altar.

The members of the class are: Stephen Bek, St. Catherine of Siena Church, Kennesaw; Ernest Biglow, Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Atlanta; William Brandt, St. Pius X Church, Conyers; Raymond Brown, St. John Neumann Church, Lilburn; Joseph Eustace, St. Joseph’s Church, Marietta; William Garrett, Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Atlanta; Chester Griffin, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Atlanta; Fred Johns, St. Pius X Church, Conyers; Brian Kilkelly, St. Pius X Church, Conyers; William McKenzie, Christ Our Hope Church, Lithonia; Wayland Moncrief, St. Joseph’s Church, Marietta; Ronald St. Michel, St. Theresa Church, Douglasville; Alfred Samoranski, St. Monica’s Church, Duluth; Chris Thompson, Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Atlanta; and Albert Weber, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Smyrna.

Also installed at the Mass as an acolyte was seminarian Benjamin Serna Avina.
