Father Durkin Assigned To First Pastorate In Lithonia

ATLANTA—Archbishop John F. Donoghue has assigned Father John Durkin Jr. to his first pastorate. He has been named pastor of Christ Our Hope Church, Lithonia, effective Nov. 8.

Father Durkin, 43, has been serving as a parochial vicar at St. John Neumann Church, Lilburn, since he was ordained to the priesthood in June 1999.

He received a master of divinity degree in May 1999 from Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md. Before entering the seminary, he taught English and social studies for six years at Stratford Academy, Macon, and taught English and coached track and cross country for six years at Athens Academy, Athens. He has a master of arts degree in teaching English from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a bachelor’s degree in English and politics from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C.

While preparing for the priesthood he served at St. Anthony’s Church, Atlanta, at Christ Our King and Savior Church, Greensboro, and at St. Peter’s Church, LaGrange.
