Rev. Mr. Michael K. Balfour

Age: 49

Birth Date: Dec. 4, 1951.

Place of Birth: New Orleans, Louisiana.

Family: Married for 14 years to Claire Whitley Balfour.

Education: Earned bachelor of arts degree in journalism, 1975, from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge; is master catechist for Archdiocese of Atlanta.

Work Experience: Creative director/production manager of The Georgia Bulletin, 1997-present; art director and manager of communications department of Printing by Design security corporation, Atlanta, 1988-97; business manager of North Carolina Catholic, 1986-88, Raleigh; executive director of radio and TV for Diocese of Lafayette, La., 1984-86; account executive, public relations director, electronic media producer, 1981-84, at Sides & Associates advertising agency, Lafayette; creative/art director for Ad Four Advertising, Baton Rouge, La., 1975-81.

Moved to Georgia from Canada in 1983 where worked for family business, Huntsman Chemicals, Rome, until sold in 1993; worked from 1971-82 in family business in Mansonville and Montreal, Quebec, where worked in customer service and as plant manager.

Work Experience: Since the fall of 2000, senior administrator for archdiocesan Department of Religious Education; 1999-2000, adult education coordinator for St. Andrew Church, Roswell; 1995-2000, human resources management consultant; 1984-94 was first labor lawyer for King & Spalding; 1982-84 was first labor lawyer for Atlanta office of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP; 1976-82 was chief labor counsel for Owens-Illinois, Inc. multinational manufacturing corporation, Toledo, Ohio; 1974-76 was partner in own firm; 1969-74, was first labor partner for what is now Smith Gambrell & Russell LLP, Atlanta.
