JONESBOROThe Knights of Columbus, Tara Council 6352, held
its second annual Priests Appreciation Dinner May 5, honoring priests
throughout the archdiocese for their work and devotion to their parishes.
Archbishop John F. Donoghue and 23 priests attended the dinner,
including special honoree Father Tim Gadziala, who served most recently as
pastor of St. Francis Assisi Church in Blairsville and its mission of St. Paul
the Apostle in Cleveland.
A reception was held in the Knights of Columbus Hall followed by a
dinner prepared by Knights John Lada and John Gavel. Music was presented by
Knight Will W. Rogers and Maria Pia Ugarte, soloist.
Following the welcome, Sal DAmbrosio, state deputy of the
Georgia State Council of the Knights of Columbus, delivered the keynote
address. Archbishop Donoghue thanked the Knights of Columbus for their hard
work and support of the priests.
After the remarks, each priest received a wall hanging of the Last
Supper from the Vatican that was blessed by Pope John Paul II and made from
clay believed to be found in the area of Christs tomb. The archbishop was
presented with a sword of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus on the occasion
of his 45th anniversary of ordination. The presenters were Howard Burch and
John Gavel.
The highlight of the evening was the recognition of Father
Gadziala, who was honored for his work in the parish and the archdiocese.
Father Gadziala, who is a Fourth Degree Knight, will be leaving his parish and
mission at the request of Archbishop Donoghue to attend American University in
Washington, D.C., to earn his canon law degree. When he returns to the
archdiocese, he will serve in the Metropolitan Tribunal. An avid golfer,
musician, coin collector and reader, Father Gadziala speaks, reads and writes
Spanish, French, German, Biblical Hebrew, Greek and Latin. |
