HOLY LAND
PILGRIMAGE -- Twenty priests took part in a Jubilee Pilgrimage to the Holy Land
March 19-29, a visit which overlapped the pilgrimage of Pope John Paul II.
Originally planned for archdiocesan priests by Father Richard Kieran, it was
led by his brother, Father John Kieran, and by guide Tony Boyiadian, an
Armenian Catholic who has guided the Holy Land pilgrimages organized by Father
Richard for many years. The group included 18 priests working in the
archdiocese and two from other dioceses. The priests celebrated Mass daily at
holy sites in Nazareth, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Tiberias, Capernaum, Mt. Tabor
and other places, with music planned by Father Paul Berny. We had a good
spiritual time, we had a good fraternal time and we certainly prayed for the
needs of our parishes and people at each of the holy sites, Father John
Kieran said. While they did not see the pope, the priests saw the excitement
and preparation throughout the country, Father Kieran said. The country
really did make a big effort to welcome the Holy Father.
