SNELVILLE—A late St. Oliver Plunkett Church parishioner touched the hearts of many, and his legacy lives on at the parish that he loved.

“Daddy Joe” Mansour died of cancer at the end of August last year. Devoted to St. Oliver’s since he first became a parishioner in the mid-1980s, Mansour trained the altar servers for several years and served as the treasurer of the Men’s Club. He served as a lector, eucharistic minister and ready volunteer for many ministries and, it was said, that his warm smile and welcome hugs became a symbol of the community spirit at the parish.

As the public relations director for Fitness International, Mansour enjoyed speaking of the twin virtues of physical and spiritual health to numerous groups at local schools and businesses.

Recently the Women’s Club at St. Oliver’s donated a statue of St. Joseph holding the baby Jesus in honor of Mansour. The funds were raised by raffling a week-long stay in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

REMEMBRANCE -- Isabel Mansour stands next to the statue at St. Oliver Plunkett Church, Snellville, that was donated in memory of her late husband Joe Mansour.
