| CUMMING-Eight students from Pinecrest Academy recently took top honors
at the Berry College Math Competition for seventh- and eighth-graders.
The Pinecrest team won over students from public and private schools in
North Georgia in the Feb. 10 competition, which included a written test,
individual timed ciphering and team ciphering. Eighth-grader Katelyn Gordon
also won the first-place high individual score medal.
Sharon Hulsebus, the seventh-grade teacher who coached the team, expressed
pride in her students.
"This team has worked very hard and they are to be commended
for their participation and effort in this very challenging math contest."
The Pinecrest team, taking the first place trophy for overall high team
scores, included Katelyn Gordon, Nancy Fiedler, Richard Umemoto and Laura Ann
Hulsebus, along with their alternates, Cristina Diodati, Lindsay DiRito, Randi
Jackson and Patrick Gannon.
Pinecrest Academy is a private Catholic school offering a college
preparatory curriculum for pre-kindergarten through eighth grades.
