ATLANTA—Joe and Roseanne DiBenedetto, parishioners of St. Matthew’s Church, Winder, have been named Georgia Husband and Wife of the Year 2000.

The couple, who has been married over 40 years, will be honored at the World Marriage Day Ball, Feb. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia across from Perimeter Mall.

The award is given to honor a couple whose example of faith and love has touched the lives of those around them. The DiBenedettos were selected from a slate of candidates from all over Georgia.

They were described by their children as the best example of a loving, committed marriage.

Meeting as children, Joe switched his paper route with a friend in order to deliver the newspaper to Roseanne’s house.

Married on July 4, 1959, the DiBenedettos have seven children and 13 grandchildren. Those close to the couple say they never meet strangers. On any given day, their children, grandchildren, clergy, travelers and an assortment of friends may surround their dinner table.

Former parishioners of All Saints Church in Dunwoody, the DiBenedettos are passionate about helping others and are continuing their service in their new home in Braselton.

All couples are invited to honor the DiBenedettos and celebrate their own marriages at the World Marriage Day Ball. The cost is $75 a couple for the dinner and dance, or $165 for a package that also includes a room at the hotel. Dress is semi-formal, from coat and tie to tuxedos.

To make reservations for the ball, mail a check payable to WWME to Jerry and Cathy Monda, 234 Shadow Lake Drive, Lilburn, GA 30047. To use your Visa or MasterCard when making a reservation, call the Mondas at (770) 923-3132.
