ATLANTA--Recently re-elected to his second three-year term as council
president for the Chamblee-based St. Vincent de Paul Society, Alan Urech is
responsible for setting the vision and establishing organizational strategies
for the Society, which helps people in need throughout North Georgia.
Under his leadership, SVDP, which provided temporary emergency assistance to
more than 68,000 people last year, has expanded its programs and services. The
enhancements include a life skills education series, a temporary housing
program, two new thrift store locations and the Clothes Line project, where new
childrens clothes, donated by Sears, are distributed to nonprofit
agencies that serve children and families.
In January, the Society relocated its headquarters from downtown Atlanta to
a 15,000-square-foot facility in Chamblee.
The new location gave us the space we needed to offer these additional
services to the people we serve, Urech said.
Urech also serves as a trustee for the National Council of the Society of
St. Vincent de Paul and represents the Southeast region on the National Thrift
Store Committee.
Urech said that his aunt, who was an active member of the Society in
Bloomington, Ill., introduced him to the works of SVDP.
I was very impressed with the compassion and care Society members
demonstrated when helping those in need, he said. When I had the
opportunity to volunteer my time, I made a conscious choice to work with an
organization whose principles closely matched my own. Helping one person at a
time take responsibility to make significant change in their life was very
appealing to me.
By profession, Urech has 30 years experience in marketing, sales and
customer satisfaction.
Currently employed as the director of marketing for Eclipsys Corp. in
Dunwoody, Urech earned a bachelors degree in medical technology from
Northern Illinois University and a masters degree from Central Michigan
University. He also served in the Army Reserve for six years. Urech and his
wife, Claudia, have two children.
The Society is an international lay Catholic nonprofit organization with
1,100 volunteer members who provide personal and neighborly help to people in
need.
