Wheel Appeal Benefits SVDP

Wheel Appeal Benefits SVDP

ATLANTA--Since its establishment in 1998, the Wheel Appeal program has raised over $50,000 from the donations of used cars, trucks, boats and RVs for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

The program allows donors a simple way to dispose of their unwanted vehicle, as well as an income tax write-off. Vehicles need not be in running condition.

Charity Auto Donations, Inc., a local business that facilitates the sale of the car for the Society, makes arrangements to pick up the vehicle, after a donor completes a short questionnaire, and provides a receipt stating that the donation was made to SVDP. The title is then signed over to Charity Auto Donations, Inc. until someone buys the car.

Depending on the condition of the vehicle, Charity Auto Donations Inc., may sell it to a dealer, a scrap yard or at an auction. SVDP receives 70 percent of the proceeds after transaction costs, such as towing expenses and needed repairs are subtracted. Some parish SVDP Conferences request cars for people they are helping and Charity Auto Donations, Inc. does not handle these cars.
