ATLANTA-- Deirdre Holler received the DeKalb County Board of Health’s outstanding volunteer award for her 13 years of dedicated service to the board of health’s East DeKalb and South DeKalb Health Centers.

At a recognition program held April 20 at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta, board members thanked Holler, a parishioner at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Decatur, and over 600 other individuals who volunteered a total of 9,000 hours last year. They also recognized the dozens of organizations that support the agency’s efforts to improve the health of DeKalb County residents.

Patrick Bohan, son of the late board of health director for whom the volunteer award is named, presented a plaque to Holler as recipient of the 1999 Dr. Gunar N. Bohan Memorial Award for outstanding volunteer service.

Serving at least 100 hours a year for the past 13 years, Holler has coordinated the collection of donated items for infants, which are used as incentives for the centers’ prenatal patients to practice good prenatal care. She is married to Buster Holler and is the mother of six and has six grandchildren.
