Birth Date: July 12, 1958.

Place of Birth: Darby, Pa.

Parents: John and Claire Durkin.

Siblings: Two sisters.

Education: Earned bachelor’s degree in English and politics, 1980, from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C.; earned master of arts degree in teaching English, 1982, from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; completes master of divinity degree in May from Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, Emmitsburg, Md.

Work Experience: Taught English and social studies for six years to middle and high school students at Stratford Academy, Macon, and taught middle school English and coached track and cross country for six years at Athens Academy, Athens.

Primary Hobbies and Interests: Singing in choir, Gregorian, contemporary and liturgical music, reading and studying Hebrew, Italian and other languages.

Pastoral Internships: Currently serves at Immaculate Conception Parish, York, Pa.; served as deacon, summer 1998, at St. Anthony’s Church in Atlanta and worked in youth and adult education at Catholic Center; completed independent study of Old and New Testaments, summer 1997, at Monastery of Bethlehem, Livingston, N.Y., and in Charlotte, N.C., while serving African-American and Vietnamese communities with the Missionaries of Charity; served at Christ Our King and Savior Church, Greensboro, summer 1996; completed pastoral year at St. Peter’s Church, LaGrange, 1994-95.

Particular Ministries of Interest: Parish ministry.

First Mass: June 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, Atlanta, and June 27 at 6 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church, LaGrange.

First Assignment: Parochial vicar at St. John Neumann Church, Lilburn, a parish of 3,128 families.
