DUNWOODY--Bob and Martha Carpenter, parishioners at All Saints Church,
Dunwoody, have been named the 1999 Georgia Husband and Wife of the Year.
Selected from a slate of candidates from all over Georgia, representing
several faiths, the Carpenters will be presented with the award at the World
Marriage Day Valentine Ball at the Marriott North Central in Atlanta on Feb. 6.
The award is given to honor couples whose example of faith and love have
touched the lives of those around them.
Active in both their parish and community, the Carpenters are eucharistic
ministers and teach CCD classes, preparing young children for first penance and
first Communion at All Saints.
Describing themselves as best friends, the couple met when Bob was
11-years-old and Martha was 9. They were married in 1948, and now have three
children, six grandchildren and one great-grand child.
The Carpenters have been entered in the National Husband and Wife of the
Year Contest. The results of that contest will be announced later this month.
The 1999 World Marriage Day Ball will be held Feb. 6, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
at the Marriott North Central, located at 2000 Century Blvd., NE. It will
feature dining, dancing and the presentation of the Husband and Wife of the
Year Award. Dress is semi-formal and tickets are $75 a couple. An overnight
dinner-dance package is available for $150.
To register for the ball, call Jerry and Cathy Monda at (770) 923-3132, or
mail a check, payable to Worldwide Marriage Encounter to the Mondas at 234
Shadow Lake Drive, Lilburn, 30047. Group reservations are available.
