Sister Carleen Lynch Dies In West Virginia

ATLANTA--Sister Carleen Lynch, SSJ, who served as a religious education consultant in the Archdiocese of Atlanta from 1982-87, died Tuesday, Nov. 10 at Charleston Area Medical Center in West Virginia from injuries sustained in an accident. She was 63.

Since leaving Atlanta, Sister Lynch had continued to offer sacramental workshops for parents at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Alpharetta, along with yearly retreat days for participants in the RCIA program at both St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and Holy Family Parish, Marietta.

In addition to her ministry in Atlanta, Sister Lynch also served as a director of faith development at Mt. Gallitzin Academy in Baden, Pa. A native of Conemaugh, Pa., Sister Lynch also ministered as a teacher in elementary and secondary schools in western Pennsylvania for 16 years before serving as director of religious education in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Her ministry as motherhouse coordinator preceded her election to the Governing Council of the congregation from 1988-93.

Sister Lynch is survived by one brother, James of Oviedo, Fla., two sisters, Christine Russell of Chassell, Mich., and Lynda Neff of Alderson, W. Va., and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse in Baden.
