DOUGLASVILLE--Members of St. Theresas Church joined their
spiritual leaders Oct. 27 in breaking ground for a new parish
Education/Activities Building. The new building will be immediately
adjacent to the church at 4401 Prestley Mill Road.
Archbishop John F. Donoghue, along with the churchs pastor
Father Stewart Wilber, and a number of parish leaders turned the soil
for the facility following a brief ceremony.
Four-year-old children from the churchs school of religion
offered a musical number after which appropriate Scripture and other
readings took place.
Steve Rainwater of Rainwater Construction Co. of Atlanta, general
contractor for the project, later outlined details of the new
structure, which will be a two story, brick building with a metal
roof.
There will be approximately 12,000 square feet of floor space,
he said. We expect to complete the job within eight or nine
months.
In addition, the project includes us re-roofing the existing
church, remodeling the existing kitchen in the church basement into a
commercial kitchen and expanding the parking lot. Overall, were
talking about a total project of about $1.4 million, Rainwater
said.
The building will include 12 classrooms and offices.
According to Christine Quinn of the projects building
committee, there will be offices for the elementary education
director, adult education and youth ministry and a conference area.
In his remarks the archbishop said the new structure, in addition to
serving the needs of the parish community, points to the growing
relationship between the Catholic parish and surrounding community of
Douglasville and Douglas County. |
