Scouts Attend 'Duty to God' Camp
|
ATLANTA--The Flint River Council of the Boy Scouts of America held the 1998 "Duty to God" encampment at Camp Thunder Sept. 11-13. The camp provided the scouts with the opportunity to work toward the Catholic "Ad Altare Dei" award as well as the Protestant "God and Church" award. Adults studying for the Ad Altare Dei counselor program also participated in the event. Eleven scouts and six adults participated in the student Ad Altare Dei program, while three adult students and two adult teachers participated in its counselor program. Fifty-nine scouts and 22 adults worked towards their emblems in the God and Church program during the weekend. A combined worship service was held and presided over by Father Guyma Noel of Holy Trinity Church, Peachtree City, and Reverend Steve Midkiff of the First United Methodist Church, Griffin. Both members of the clergy read Scripture passages and consecrated and distributed communion to their members. A rosary made of string by the Legion of Mary from St. George Church, Newnan, was distributed to those persons desiring one. A campfire and sing-a-long was attended by all participants. |
