Place of Birth: Colombia, South America; raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Parents: Celmira and the late Hernan Barona

Siblings: Six sisters, two brothers

Education: Concordia University, Montreal, bachelor’s degree in political science and economics, 1979; Concordia University, Montreal, master’s degree in business administration; St. Meinrad School of Theology, St. Meinrad, Ind., master of theology degree, 1996, master of divinity degree, 1998.

Work Experience: Worked for six years as the vice president of an import fashion company in Montreal. Also worked in the department of finance at Grady Hospital, Atlanta.

Primary Hobbies and Interests: World travel, the arts, outdoor activities including camping and climbing.

Pastoral Internships: Completed a clinical pastoral internship at Crawford-Long Hospital, Atlanta, working as a counselor in the outreach program at the Episcopal Church of St. Luke, Atlanta, which is associated with the hospital. Served at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Atlanta, in a summer pastoral internship.

Additional Languages: Spanish, French and Italian.

Particular Ministry Of Interest: Hispanic ministry

First Mass: St. Jude the Apostle Church, Atlanta, Sunday, June 7, 3 p.m.

First Assignment: Parochial vicar at the Church of St. Benedict, Duluth, a parish of approximately 4,000 families.
