Sisters Recognized By Serrans

ATLANTA--Women Religious serving in the Archdiocese of Atlanta were recognized Sunday, Jan. 11 at a luncheon given in their honor by the Serra Clubs of Atlanta at Holy Cross Church.

During the luncheon Sister Mary Priniski, OP, head of the Atlanta Conference of Sisters, invited the sisters to the podium to introduce themselves and tell of their work in the archdiocese. There are currently women from approximately 30 different religious orders serving in the Archdiocese of Atlanta in ministries of every variety. The first women Religious, Sisters of Mercy, came to Georgia in the mid-1800s.

Archbishop John F. Donoghue attended the celebration honoring the sisters and their work.

Two Serra Clubs, the Metro and North Metro, work in the archdiocese to support and foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Members are lay Catholics, both women and men. The organization is named in honor of Blessed Junipero Serra, a Franciscan missionary in the 1700s in California.
