Cathedral Ensemble Releases CD

ATLANTA--Ken Macek and the Contemporary Ensemble of the Cathedral of Christ the King have released a CD entitled "Sacrament, Story & Song," featuring 14 original compositions for the Eucharist, Liturgy of the Hours and private contemplation.

The compositions by Macek, who directs the Contemporary Ensemble with his wife Elyn, are contemporary liturgical works using instruments including piano, synthesizer, guitar, bassoon and harp. Guest artists include Mary Welch Rogers of the Cathedral of Christ the King, Paul Tate, Jordan Colletta and Deanna Light of the Church of St. Benedict, Duluth, and Bill Grabbe of St. Philip Benizi Church, Jonesboro.

Macek began playing in the music ministry at the Cathedral in 1977 at the 5:30 p.m. Sunday Mass and has written much of the music sung by that assembly and the Evening Prayer community. He is also active in music ministry at Holy Family Church in Marietta and at St. Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta.

The composer noted that the music has a multi-generational appeal and has been effective in ministering to those who are young adults and older. He said the title "is tied into our belief that Christ is present in the Word and in the Eucharist."

The CD was recorded at Songbird Studios in Atlanta and 2000 CDs and cassettes were released for sale locally.

The cost is $15 for CDs and $10 for cassettes plus $1.50 for shipping and handling, if applicable. The recording is available at St. Mary's Bookstore, 2849 Piedmont Road, NE, Atlanta, or may be purchased by mail by sending name, address and a check for the appropriate amount payable to Ken Macek to Elijah's Cup, 1260 East Rock Springs Road, Atlanta 30306 or macek@mindspring.com.
