MARIETTA--Transfiguration Church has produced its first Christmas CD,
"Christmas at Transfiguration," featuring meditative and joyful
holiday songs in various musical styles performed by 75 of the church's singers
and instrumentalists.
Of 7,000 copies produced for sale locally, approximately 3,500 copies are
available at a cost of $12.60 for a CD or chrome cassette. The performers spent
nearly 150 hours recording at the AudioArt Studio in Smyrna under the direction
of Rod Voss, who has served as liturgy director at the parish since 1992.
The 17-song album includes chant, medieval carols, traditional and modern
classics, contemporary pop and light jazz pieces. The musical texture varies
through the use of classical and acoustic guitars, piano, harpsichord,
synthesizer, organ, electric bass, flute, saxophone, drums and percussion.
Songs include "Of the Father's Love Begotten," "People Look
East," "What Child Is This," "O Come All Ye Faithful,"
"Do You Hear What I Hear," "Songs of the Angels" and
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Solo vocal performances are
given by Jeanne Lyons and Celia McDermott and by David Fragale on guitar.
The Transfiguration choir blends traditional choral music with a
contemporary pop ensemble. Voss said the music ministry plans to record
additional albums in February and June 1998. To purchase the CD or cassette
