IHM Hosts Health Fair

Parish

ATLANTA--Immaculate Heart of Mary Church held a health fair Sept. 27 in cooperation with the Toco Hills Ministerial Alliance. The churches participating in this effort were: Central Congregational, Cokesbury United Methodist, Briarcliff Baptist and St. Matthew Lutheran. Students from Marist, St. Pius X and eighth-graders from IHM also assisted. Approximately 150 volunteers assisted in putting on IHM's first health fair.

A number of medical specialists were available to provide such services as dental screening, glucose testing, flu shots and consultation in areas like AIDS, alcoholism and Alzheimer's disease. The St. Joseph's Hospital Mercy Mobile Care and mammogram units, along with other departments were also on hand. IHM parishioners Dr. Kevin Davis, Dr. Dave Roberts and Dr. Phil Jardina shared their medical expertise with fair participants.

Emory University Hospital kidney specialist Dr. Carlos Zayas and his wife Rita Pons and Father Jose Gonzalez, parochial vicar at IHM, were helpful in getting the word out about the health fair to the Hispanic community.

The IHM health fair was designed to service the needs of the senior and multicultural residents in the community at large. The health fair was enthusiastically supported by the IHM parish council and pastor, Father Fred Wendel.
