A. U. Catholics Anticipate New Chapel

ATLANTA--The Catholic community at the Atlanta University Center took the opportunity in October to celebrate slow but steady progress toward building a permanent Catholic chapel on the campus.

On Sunday, Oct. 20, Father Edward Branch blessed the land and Mass was celebrated on the site where the chapel will be built. Since Oct. 20, 1991, the Atlanta University Catholic Center has had a temporary site on campus and has been working toward developing the campus ministry program and building a permanent Catholic Center. Father Branch, the Catholic chaplain, is assisted by Deacon and Mrs. Fred Sambrone and students from the various schools which make up the university center. The building committee is chaired by Merrine McDonald. Each year on the Sunday closest to the Oct. 20 anniversary Blessing Day is celebrated. This year the community celebrated the acquisition of the last parcel of property which stood in the way of construction.
