Gift Of Grace House Remains Calm

ATLANTA--Even during the health crisis of Mother Teresa, the atmosphere at the Gift of Grace House on St. Charles Avenue is joyful and calm. At the home, four Missionaries of Charity, assisted by many volunteers, take care of women who have AIDS.

Volunteers assist in a variety of ways, including bringing home-cooked meals following menus supplied by the Missionaries of Charity or staying for a scheduled time during the day or overnight. Sister M. Marline, MC, the superior, said that more volunteers are currently needed to assist the 40 who are already on the schedule.

Her greatest need, she said, is for volunteers who are able to stay overnight one or two nights a month from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. This work requires a special desire to serve the poor. Volunteers will receive training and spend time at the home during the day before being assigned to the overnight shift. Daytime volunteers are also needed to come for a Sunday morning shift or daytime periods on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturdays. Volunteer cooks contact Sister Marline and prepare meals requested by the residents and then bring the meal to the home on the day it will be served.

Anyone wishing to volunteer may contact Sister Marline at (404) 892-5111. She also requested continued prayers for the recovery of Mother Teresa.
