Marist School Names Athletic Director

ATLANTA--Tommy Marshall, assistant athletic director at Furman University, has been named the director of athletics for the Marist School, effective May 1.

Marshall will be responsible for the management and supervision of over 40 athletic teams and a coaching staff of 50. He will have no coaching responsibilities at Marist which will allow Marshall to devote his time to the administration and leadership of the department.

Marshall has been employed at Furman in Greenville, S.C., since 1986, serving first as an assistant football coach and later as assistant athletic director.

He earned a bachelor's degree in business administration at Furman in 1976 and a master's in education in social studies from Georgia State University in 1980. Marshall began his career in 1977 as a teacher and assistant football coach at Redan High School in DeKalb County. From 1980-1985 he served as a teacher and head football coach at Walton High School. Marshall was a teacher and assistant football coach at Mars Hill College for one year before beginning his tenure at Furman.
