CSS Volunteer Receives Award for Program

ATLANTA--The Prudential Insurance Company of America honored Leslie Braner, a Prudential account specialist, by contributing $500 in her name to In-Home Services, a program of Catholic Social Services.

Ms. Braner has been volunteering with In-Home Services for the last year and a half. Volunteers dedicate their time and abilities to assisting an elderly person with light housekeeping, transportation and home repairs.

"We have many wonderful clients who need companionship and a little help around their home," said Pat Duggan, program director of In-Home Services. "We like to match clients and volunteers, based on their interest and location in the metro Atlanta area."

Ms. Braner visits her companion, Helen Kopchek, weekly assisting her with personal needs or light housekeeping. Recently after surgery Ms. Braner spent a few nights with her until they both felt confident she could be alone overnight. Ms. Braner also helped Miss Kopchek fulfill a 50-year dream by taking her to the Dominican Monastery of St. Jude in Marbury, Ala.

Ms. Braner was recognized through the Prudential's Community Champions Awards Program, a nationwide program to acknowledge employees' volunteer commitment, leadership and service to their community. Ms. Braner was one of the two Prudential associates recognized in the Atlanta area this year. In 1995, the program awarded a total of $535,000 in grants to 320 organizations across the U.S.
