CHARLOTTE, N.C.--The Atlanta Provincial Assembly of Bishops and
Priests will be held Oct. 23 to 25 in Charlotte with the theme "The
Many Images of God."
Hosted by the Diocese of Charlotte it is open to bishops and priests
from Atlanta, Savannah, Raleigh, N.C. and Charleston, S.C.
One conference speaker will be Father Michael J. Scanlon, OSA, who
holds the Josephine Connelly Chair in Christian Theology at Villanova
University. He has conducted twice a year workshops at the Vatican II
Institute in Menlo Park, Calif., and yearly workshops for priests at
the Washington Theological Union. He is a past president of the
Catholic Theological Society of America.
Another speaker will be Abbot Francis Kline, OCSO, of Mepkin Abbey
in South Carolina. He entered the Trappist monastery in Gethsemani,
Ky., in 1972 after completing a degree at the Julliard School, New
York.
Ordained in 1986 he was novice director of the community at
Gethsemani until he was elected third abbot of Mepkin Abbey in 1990.
The conference will be held at the Holiday Inn-Woodlawn, a
convention facility in Charlotte, and will open at 4 p.m. Oct. 23 and
close at noon on Oct. 25. Registration of $100 is due Oct. 18 and made
