STONE MOUNTAIN -- All Catholic women are invited to attend the last
Magnificat Prayer Breakfast of this year on Sat., Nov. 11 from 9:30
a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The breakfast will be held at Mount Carmel Christian Church in Stone
Mountain. The guest speaker, Ann Moorehead, a parishioner at Sacred
Heart, will speak on intercessory prayer.
Father Frank Giusta, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, has
assumed the role of spiritual advisor of the group. Father Giusta met
with the Magnificat leadership team for a retreat at the monastery in
Conyers in late September. He will be speaking on the sacrament of
reconciliation at the November meeting in addition to offering the
blessing at the breakfast.
"Magnificat is based on the principle of prayer done together,"
he said. "As spiritual advisor I don't get involved in running
the organization, I'm there for advice, encouragement and support. I
really like the organization and the way women minister to women.
There is an enormous amount of joy and enthusiasm and rejoicing at the
breakfast."
"It is a ministry of prayer and praising the Lord," he
continued. "The values expressed are traditional Catholic values,
such as family commitment and attachment to the Church."
Founded in New Orleans in 1981, Magnificat is a ministry to Catholic
women which encourages a deeper commitment to Jesus and an openess to
the Holy Spirit. The "Joyful Visitation" Chapter of
Magnificat in Atlanta is the international group's only Georgia
chapter. Participants are seated in small groups with a hostess to
guide discussions.
No tickets are sold at the door and reservations are required.
Tickets are $5 and may be ordered by sending a stamped, self-addressed
envelope to: Daisy Whiting, 1040 Sterling Ridge Chase, Marietta, Ga.
30062. Make checks payable to Magnificat and enclose an index card
listing name, address, city, zip code and parish. The ticket deadline
is Oct. 28. Child care is not available.
