Native Music, Dance Featured At Farewell To Father Fogarty

MARIETTA--A lively send-off was held for Father Paul Fogarty at Holy Family Parish, Marietta, on Sunday, May 28. Pastor for 12 years, he moved from that large parish to become pastor at Holy Cross Parish in Atlanta.

Fathers Frank Richardson and Juan de la Cruz concelebrated the farewell liturgy with Father Fogarty. In his final homily, Father Fogarty spoke with emotion and gratitude of the cooperation parishioners had offered him over the years.

A picnic and entertainment followed. Parishioners brought dishes, many with an international flavor, for the bountiful buffet. Entertainment included young Irish step dancers and three Hispanic groups in native dances. Music of the harp and bagpipe also filled the afternoon air.

Tributes to Father Fogarty were voiced by representatives of parish groups. He was also presented with a generous gift of money.

Father Edward Thein succeeds Father Fogarty. He is formerly pastor of the Church of St. Joseph in Dalton.
