Bunny Bohaczyk Honored

ATLANTA--Bunny Bohaczyk of Holy Cross Church received the Archdiocesan Service Medal from Archbishop John F. Donoghue at a special liturgical celebration attended by about 45 family members and close friends in the Catholic Center Chapel Saturday, Feb. 25.

Ms. Bohaczyk was recognized as the founder and director of the Friends of St. Martin de Porres, patron saint of the poor and oppressed. This ministry has been responsible for helping and feeding thousands of the poor and homeless in the Atlanta metropolitan area over the 15 years Ms. Bohaczyk served as its director. Work includes serving food to the homeless in downtown Woodruff Park.

Archbishop Donoghue noted that Ms. Bohaczyk is only the third recipient of this Service Medal. The firsts recipients were Sacred Heart parishioners Mary Pratt Greene and Margaret Pratt Norris in 1990. Prior to presenting the medal, Archbishop Donoghue read its inscription from the 25th chapter of Matthew’s Gospel: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

A reception followed at Holy Cross Church where the pastor, Father Edward Everitt, OP, presented Ms. Bohaczyk a plaque of gratitude from the Friends of St. Martin de Porres Board of Directors.
