Father Kelley Hospitalized

ANDERSON, SC--Father John Kelley, pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Hartwell, underwent emergency surgery Jan. 18 for intercranial bleeding at Anderson Memorial Hospital in Anderson, S.C. He is being supported by a ventilator and is listed in critical condition.

Father Kelley, 72, a native of Omaha, Neb. was ordained June 23, 1957 by Bishop Francis Hyland at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit. Before coming to Atlanta Father Kelley was a Trappist monk at St. Benedict’s Monastery in Snowmass, Colo.

Father Kelley was incardinated to the Archdiocese of Atlanta Dec. 22, 1978. In June 1983 Father Kelley was named pastor of St. Anna’s Church in Monroe. From September 1981 to December 1990 he served as the archdiocesan coordinator for ministries with the handicapped.
