Mary Ellen Kane Dies; Mother of Father Kane

KENNESAW--Mary Ellen McCann Kane, mother of Father Terence Kane, pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Kennesaw, died on Christmas Eve in Drogheda, Ireland. She was 87.

Mrs. Kane died at a nursing home where she had been a resident for two years. A native of Dromiskin, she lived most of her life in Drogheda. An avid gardener and member of a number of clubs, she was a parishioner of St. Peter’s Church, a member of the Immaculate Conception Confraternity and a member of the Third Order of St. Francis.

Her husband, Matthew, and daughter, Sister Anna Marie, a Poor Clare, predeceased her. Survivors include sons Christy and Patrick; daughters Sister Maureen, a principal of the Presentation Convent School in Castleisland, Co. Kerry, Eileen, Clare and Lucy, and 13 grandchildren.

Father Kane was principal celebrant of the funeral Mass and co-officiated at the burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery Dec. 27.

The services were attended by Father Gerry Gill, MSFS, a resident of Atlanta for 17 years and Billy Farrelly, father of Father John Farrelly, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Milledgeville.
