Marist Holds Graduation Ceremony

Marist School held commencement exercises for 181 members of the class of 1994 Saturday, May 28, in Symphony Hall of the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta.

Headmaster Michael Maher awarded the diplomas. Daniel McMorrow, son of Denis and Patricia McMorrow of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, delivered the valedictorian address. Patrick Joseph Haley of Corpus Christi Parish, gave the salutatorian address.

The Baccalaureate Mass was celebrated Friday, May 27, in the Cathedral of Christ the King. Father Kevin Duggan, SM, campus pastor, was the principal celebrant assisted by other members of the Marist community.

During the graduation ceremony, McMorrow received the Atlanta Journal Cup awarded the best all-around senor. He and Haley also received the Harley R. Kimmel Memorial Award given by the Marist Parents’ Club.

The Archbishop’s Award, presented to the male and female student achieving excellence in the study of the Catholic faith and for service to their school, parish or community, was presented to Andres Montana, son of Roberto and Lucila Montana, and Shannon Crunk, daughter of Ed and Lori Crunk. Both are members of St. Jude the Apostle Parish.

Marist’s highest honor, the Sedes Sapientiae Award, was presented to Kimberly Rosenkoetter, daughter of Glenn and Jan Rosenkoetter of the Church of Saint Andrew.

Martha Zimmer, daughter of Robert and Martha Zimmer of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and Brad Buckler, son of Stephen and Nancy Buckler of Norcross, each received the W. Dean Hargis Award recognizing their contributions to Marist in the area of athletics.

At Marist’s academic awards ceremony held May 11, Andy Clark was named STAR Student and Mike Piper won the Ray A. Kroc Young American Achievement Award.

School newspaper editors, Erin Alexander and Kerianne Barbour received “Blue and Gold Editor” medal. Anne Hardcastle and Chieko Noguchi received the Editor’s Medal for the school yearbook and Chris Hoff and Daphne Rhyne received medals for editing of the school’s art and literary magazine.

National Merit Scholarship finalists were Jason Aquilino, Colby Balch, Stacy Breaux, Julie Bush, Tricia Chin, Andy Clark, Jackie Embry, Patrick Haley, Jonah Keegan, Daniel McMorrow, Amanda Medori, Donald Roch, Lea Sanders, Shawn Watts and Jeff Webb.
