Retired School Principal Dies In Yardley, Pa.

Sister St. Raphael Carney, GNSH, died Jan. 30 at the Grey Nuns motherhouse in Yardley, Pa. She had been a Religious 62 years.

Eileen Frances Carney was born in 1908 in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Michael and Annabelle Fallon Carney. She entered the religious congregation of the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart in 1931 after attending D’Youville College and teaching at Holy Redeemer School in Buffalo.

Sister Carney was principal and taught history from 1956 to 1958 at Christ the King School in Atlanta. She retired to the Grey Nuns Motherhouse in 1987.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 4 in Sacred Heart Chapel at the motherhouse. Interment was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham, Pa.

Sister Carney is survived by two brothers, Bernard of Derby, N.Y., and Edward of St. Petersburg, Fla., and a sister, Mary Bernice Applegate of Buffalo, N.Y., as well as nieces and nephews.
