Vicki Long Lawsuit Dismissed By Court

A lawsuit filed by Vicki Long against former Atlanta Archbishop Eugene A. Marina, SSJ, and the archdiocese of Atlanta, has been dismissed by a Fulton County Superior Court judge.

Ms. Long was also ordered to pay court costs generated by the case.

Judge Josephine Cook issued a summary judgement in favor of the archdiocese and Archbishop Marino, who were listed as separate defendants in Ms. Long's lawsuit and who were represented by separate attorneys.

The lawsuit was filed by Ms. Long in November 1992 and claimed damages for personal injury from bother the archdiocese and the archbishop.

After it was revealed that the events alleged had taken place in July 1988, the court said, the lawyers sought to have the complaint dismissed immediately because a two-year statue of limitations on personal injury claims had expired.

Ms. Long then amended her complaint to add a claim that an "implied contract" had come about as a result of her alleged sexual relationship with the archbishop in "unmarried cohabitation."

Attorneys for the archdiocese and the archbishop then asked to have the new complain summarily dismissed by the court. This was granted by Judge Cook in the order filed July 16.
