Thea Jarvis Wins CPA Writing Prize

The Georgia Bulletin’s staff writer, Thea Jarvis, received an honorable mention from the Catholic Press Association of the U.S. and Canada for her profile of author Frank Bianco.

“Life Among Trappists Transforms Author Bianco” appeared in the November 5, 1992 issue of the paper. In commenting on the award the judges said of the several stories submitted from Bianco’s book tour, Mrs. Jarvis’ stands out as well written and focusing more on the author’s developing relationship with God than on details of monastic life. The award was given in the Best Personality Profile category.

Bianco’s book, Voices of Silence, was the result of years researching monastic life, and in particular, the life in Trappist monasteries, beginning at Gethsemani Abbey in Kentucky.

The award was announced at the annual meeting of the CPA in Cincinnati May 28. The Georgia Bulletin has been a consistent recipient of association awards for the past five years.
