What I Have Seen and Heard - Archbishop Gregory's Weekly Column

Print Issue: April 8, 1993

Eleanor O'Connor Honored

Described as a valiant woman, one who truly reflects the spirit of faith and love of the poor manifested in the life of their foundress St. Marguerite D’Youville, the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart recently named Eleanor O’Connor in Atlanta, as recipient of their 1993 Saint Marguerite D’Youville Award.

Mrs. O’Connor received the award, a bronze, framed engraving of the saint, at the first annual Grey Nun Benefit Dinner on Feb. 20. She was cited as co-founder of the Have A Heart project for the mentally disabled in Milledgeville as well as her extensive volunteer work with Saint Vincent de Paul, PTA, parish organizations and the Atlanta Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women.

The Grey Nuns have served in the archdiocese of Atlanta since 1937. They were educators at Christ the King, Immaculate Heart of Mary and Saint Jude’s parish schools and now staff Saint John Neumann Regional School in Gwinnett County. Grey Nuns also serve in a variety of other ministries throughout the archdiocese.
